Puzzled? The Watermelon Angel

On August 26, 2013 by Janice Taylor

Puzzled by Watermelon? The Watermelon Angel is here to share some vital information about the Watermelon, a vine-like flowering plant that hails from southern Africa.

Watermelon weighs in at approximately 50 calories per cup (a good amount of bang for your calorie buck).  Water makes up the bulk of its flesh, which explains it’s low calorie count and why watermelon is an ideal desert or snack.

In addition, it is an excellent source of:

vitamin A, which helps maintain eye health, healthy hair and skin;

vitamin C, which helps to strengthen immunity, heal wounds, prevent cell damage and promote healthy teeth and gums;

vitamin B6, which helps brain function and converts protein to energy;

potassium, which helps to regulate your blood pressure; and

lycopene, a nutrient that acts as an antioxidant in your body, which may lower your risk of developing heart disease, as well as various cancers (prostate, skin, cervical, lung and bladder).
