Dear
Our Lady of Weight Loss,
May I thirst for water
and experience
with every sip its miraculous cleansing
powers.
May my sins and fat wash away - forever,
and please,
may there always be a clean bathroom nearby.
Amen

Only 1% of the world's water is usable (for
us humans). About 97% is salty sea water,
and the remaining 2% is frozen in polar ice
caps and glaciers.

April Showers Bring May Flowers
-or-
Water Me, Please
According to Bartleby.com - The New Dictionary of Cultural
Literacy, 3rd Edition. 2002, the cultural meaning of
April Showers Bring May Flowers is "Some
unpleasant occurrences bring about better things."
I hadn't considered April showers an unpleasant occurrence.
Rather, I thought of April showers as the start of a wondrous
time of year. A time when the earth - through the mysterious
nature of water - encourages the plants to grow. Through
this new life, abundance and possibility fill the air.
Water, a Holy life force, is the most plentiful liquid
on earth. Water covers approximately 70% of the earth's
surface and is an essential component in most living things.
Our bodies are more than 75% water, our blood more than
80% and our brains more than 76%.
Water can help to alleviate depression, cleanse impurities
from the body, and make our largest organ - our skin - glow
with health. Water regulates the temperature of the human
body. It carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, cushions
joints, protects organs and tissues.
Water is a natural appetite suppressant and helps us to
digest our food. It even promotes weight loss and helps
the body to metabolize fat into energy.
So why is it so difficult to down those recommended 6 to
8 glasses a day? I'm wondering if Bartleby's should remove
the definition "Some unpleasant occurrences bring about
better things" and place it 'underwater.'
Whatever the reasons, here's a couple of suggestions to
remedy the problem. Either add a twist of lemon or line
to your water or club soda, perhaps a splash of Crystal
Light or try herbal teas. Non-caffeinated teas can be substituted
for water!

let's try and keep it simple, for those of us who aren't
too swift with the pots and pans.)

Chewing
the Fat
DEAR OLofWL, Thank you for your
words of inspiration and for the valuable information. Did
you know that green tea's caffeine is a more natural and
healthy caffeine as opposed to the caffeine in coffee? One
of my favorites is jasmine green tea. It can be served hot
or cold. Very flavorful, by the way. ~ The Iguana
Lady, Roosevelt Island, NY
Dear Iguana Lady, Thank you for your email
as well as the jasmine tea tip. I'll be sure to pass it
along and try it myself! ~ OLofWL

DEAR OLofWL, I've had a difficult few weeks
and have been bingeing badly. I can't seem to find the thing
that will get me to stop before the damage is done. I've
been dieting since I was 15.
I was hoping this time would be the time. If you have any
thoughts that would be great.
~ Still Trying After All These Years, New York, NY
Dear Still Trying, Gaining control after
a lifetime of dieting and bingeing is a process, not something
that is done over night. Make a commitment to a change in
life style, not to diet. Get rid of any red light foods
that you may have in your pantry. Recognize that when you
are bingeing you have temporarily disconnected with your
intention and goals. And if you are in a state where you
just have to eat more than necessary, when you just must
'feel' full, my suggestions is to try eating a salad (low-fat
dressing and measure it!). Try to slow your eating, slow
your thinking and zero in on what set you off in the first
place. Insight is helpful. And don't despair. ~ OLofWL
You may have to FIGHT A BATTLE more
than once to WIN IT!
