Tea Time
Our Lady of Green Tea
The Cheshire Cat: "We're all
mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
Alice: "How do you know I'm mad?"
The Cheshire Cat: "You're here, aren't you?"

The Mad Hatter's Tea Party, Chapter 7, Alice in
Wonderland, Lewis Carroll

Green tea, used for thousands of years in Asia, as both beverage
and herbal medicine is now the subject of numerous scientific
studies in the U.S. and abroad.
Research shows that green tea helps to prevent cancer and
heart disease. Green tea slows
the aging process and may even reduce harmful blood cholesterol
and blood sugar levels. It has been known to prevent and reduce
the pain of rheumatoid arthritis.
Miraculous health
benefits, indeed, but not enough to move me to brew a
pot. But when I heard that scientists in the United States
and Switzerland had published a study in the December 1999
issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition5 and Urology6
showing that green tea extract contained a substance that
may help burn fat, it was all burners aflame.
The Linus Pauling Institute explains that the weight loss
is "apparently due to increased fat oxidation and thermogenesis."
Put that in your teapot
and drink it! (Green Tea contains caffeine).

Dear OLofWL, I put down my weights
and turned to e-mail to catch my breath between exercises.
Seeing the beautiful arms on OL
in this weeks "Kick" has given me incentive
to add a few more repetitions to my workout. Do you think
that at age 71, I could ever hope for anything that even comes
close? - GBK from Illinois (though currently in Palm
Springs, Ca. enjoying the sunshine.)
Dear She who Soaks up the Rays in C.A.,.
How wonderful that you lift weights - at any age and in particular
at age 71. Did you know that our bodies decrease in strength,
flexibility, cardiovascular and respiratory endurance more
from inactivity than aging? Thank you for reminding us all
to keep moving, lifting and living. You are a beautiful inspiration,
inside and out, including your arms, which I am sure are even
more beautiful than Our Lady's! ~ OLofWL
