The age demanded that we dance
And jammed us into iron pants.
And in the end the age was handed
The sort of shit that it demanded.

Tea interferes with iron absorption by about 50 percent.
Iron is a metal. It is also a nutrient mineral (a trace mineral) that we need in our diets. Iron is essential for good health.
What does iron do? Iron carries oxygen in the red blood cells to the muscles. It gives blood its red color. Iron produces energy and keeps your immune system healthy.
Because women lose iron through menstruation, they need 15 mgs. per day, while men require only 10 mgs. Typically, the average American diet only provides 5 or 6 mgs. of iron for every 1,000 calories eaten.
If you are experiencing fatigue and weakness, decreased ability to concentrate, increased susceptibility to infection, swallowing problems, hair loss, dizziness, headaches, apathy or depression, brittle or spoon shaped fingernails, it could be that you need more iron in your diet. Better speak to your doctor! He doctor can administer a simple blood test for anemia.
What to eat? Good sources of iron are dark green leafy vegetables, legumes, dried fruits (i.e., apricots, peaches, raisins and prunes), nuts, molasses, egg yolks, meats, tofu, thyme, parsley, cinnamon, turmeric and foods fortified with iron. It is possible to get enough iron even if you are a vegetarian (don’t eat meat) or a vegan (no meat, dairy or eggs). Vitamin C can enhance the amount iron absorption into the blood. Foods rich in vitamin C are fruits and leafy green vegetables.
Other sources of iron includs the particles that get into our foods when we cook with iron cookware, vitamin supplements that contain iron as well as some water supplies.
Nevertheless, too much of iron can be toxic, even deadly!

Dear OLofWL, I lost over 30 pounds a couple of years ago, because my son was getting married. I looked great, but started to gain it back. I'm back on the wagon now, and I'm doing it for me and there's no rush. Thanks for the inspiration. ~ Nadie of the North
