Motivational Musing ~
What a Mess!
How is it that some rooms ‘feel’ comfortable, relaxing, inviting and others do not?
Dark, cluttered rooms can create a disagreeable experience. Are we merely reacting to the physical space? Or are we intuitively picking up the energy of the room?
Clearing space, cleaning up and creating order can present more than just an opportunity to tidy up. The act of cleaning can also be used as a ritual that frees space of old energy. It is particularly important to clear a space that was occupied by someone who was ill, a room in which a
dreadful squabble
had taken place, or if a negative person simply lived there.
Here are some important questions to consider as you walk through your home and sense the energy in each and every room. Some spaces may only need a thorough cleaning, while others may need a more substantial clearing – a cleansing ritual - in which case you may have to drum, clap and/or burn sage.
- What type of environment do you want to create? Energized? Relaxed?
- Do you want to invite a new relationship into your life?
- Do you want to manifest prosperity?
- Are you in a rut; need a fresh start?
- Are you feeling fatigued; need a surge of energy?
- Do you want to enhance your spiritual development?
- Is your sex life in the dumpster? (Check for dust bunnies under the bed.)
- Do you want to permanently rid yourself of excess weight?
Old energy hangs tight, so while cleaning and cleansing, be sure to reach under beds and in the back of closets to send a clear message that its time for it to go.
From the Paganism Pagan Dictionary
CLEANSING: Removing negative energies from an object or space.

Dear OLofWL, I read your righteous recipe for acorn squash, which looks very good. There is one flaw in the preparation, given the new high costs of fuel. Why bake the squash for 2 hours at 350 degrees, when you can accomplish the same purpose by cutting it in half, when raw, scoop out the seeds, bake it on lightly oiled foil, cut side down, for about 45 minutes at the same temperature? The squash cooks from the outside and inside this way, with steam working the inside of the shell, and oven heat on the outside. Aside from a minimal exposure to the light coating of oil, there is no caloric increase in the preparation. Gas and electric charges are increasing nearly 50% this winter. Think about it. You could also put the scooped out seeds on another sheet, lightly oiled, salt delicately, and toast them while the squash is baking. The seeds are very nutritious. Two for one !~ Randy F.
THANK YOU Randy F. - I appreciate your 'energy saving' way of cooking squash. Consider it done! Not only am I happy to save the money, but the fuel as well. Bravo!

Pious Project™ - Can you Haiku? Keeping your mind occupied is as important as keeping your hands occupied. I spent hours working on my haiku. Okay, it's about food - but that doesn't matter. I was out of the kitchen, counting syllables. It was hard thinkin' and thinking does burn calories!
Haiku, a traditional form of Japanese poetry, is a 17-syllable verse form consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables. In Japanese, this convention is a must, but in English, which has variation in the length of syllables, this can sometimes be difficult.

Fruitful Contest - NAME THIS CHARACTER - In 1958, Procter & Gamble first introduced a well-muscled bald character who cleans everything very well.

Last week's Fruitful query: Why are orange and black Halloween's official colors? The winner is Susan J., Bentonville, Arkansas.
Susan J. tell us, "The colors orange and black can be traced back to the occult. They were connected to the commemorative masses for the dead, which were held in November. The unbleached beeswax candles used in the various ceremonies were orange. The ceremonial caskets were covered in black cloths. Thanks for the interesting questions. Makes me learn something new every time!"
Thanks to Judith P. for her informative answer, as well. "Black is symbolic of death, used during the masses held for the dead in November.
The candles used during the masses were unbleached beeswax which is orange. Also orange is symbolic of harvest.
The original ceremony was Celtic, Samhein. At this time the barrier between the living world and the dead was thin. The spirits of the dead could cross over. People wore masks to frighten spirits away. They carried hollowed out turnips with a live coal to relight their hearth fires from the big village bonfire. On arriving in America they found pumpkins easier to hollow out."

Dear OLofWL, Thank you so much for your wonderful 'saboteur' message. I've now lost a total of 22 lbs. and I'm thinner than just about everyone I know -- a far cry from the 'zaftik' woman they used to know. It's not just that everyone is telling me I'm too thin, I'm also very unfamiliar with the size 6 person I see in the mirror (I was a 14 or 16 most of my life and got down to 10 or 12 about 10 years ago). Of course I'm loving where I am, and it is definitely an adjustment! Thanks for the wonderful work you do. ~ Janet R.
Dear Janet, You go girlfriend, you little thing. Size 6! You are absolutely correct. It sure is an adjustment - for them and you. And it takes time to see your new self as you truly appear. You've been looking through 'zaftik' lenses! Enjoy your transformation. And please, keep us in your size six loop. We want to know what it's like living in Sveltesville! ~OLofWL

Forgive me, for I have sinned.
For the past 2 months, I have been doing well;
walking 2.7 to 5.4 miles a day and cut down my food portions big time.
I also cut out fast food. Then all of a sudden, like a thunderstorm
I see a box of old cold pizza at work.
I downed 3 pieces with pepperoni drenched with ranch dressing,
then to finish it off I ordered 2 double cheeseburgers and fries from MickeyD's.
The good news is I only ate one of the burgers. My tummy ached for the next 24 hours.
