When the days start getting shorter and cooler, trees stop producing chlorophyll – the pigment that gives leaves their green color. In its absence, the yellow and orange pigments – carotenoids that were always present - become visible. |

Motivational Musing ~
October Orange
The color Orange represents the changing of the seasons. It is a color on the edge - on the threshold – of change. Orange transports us from the hot dog days (not hotdog days) of summer to the fragrant first oranges and mandarins of the fall. Orange is the color of October sunsets, and it evokes images of autumn leaves, pumpkins, and together with the color Black, Halloween.
Orange is the color of October.
| RED - The color of power, vitality, motivation, strength
ORANGE - The color of confidence, energy, joy, warmth
YELLOW - The color of strength, intelligence, joy,
happiness, optimism
GREEN - The color of balance, harmony, caring,
tenacious self-reliance, and healing
BLUE - The color of calmness, concentration,
healing, relaxation, loyalty, and trust
INDIGO - The color of soothing, power, connection
with knowledge, idealism, introversion.....and martyrdom?
VIOLET - The color of creativity, intuition, spirituality,
self-awareness |
Orange - a mixture of red and yellow - is a brilliant and dazzling color. It symbolizes energy, warmth, and the sun. Orange commands attention as does red, but with the presence of affable yellow, orange gives way to a slightly less intense experience.
Orange is a stimulant. It stimulates emotions, thoughts, conversation and even appetite. With Halloween upon us and its pumpkins piled high at every green market, perched on every doorstep, along with those mountains of haunting little orange devils called candy corn found at every turn of the supermarket, it’s no wonder we’re in danger of caving-in to the call of the candy-filled Jack-O-Lantern.
Stay strong my friends. Limit your treats, lest Halloween haunt you for months to come.
Fun Orange Facts:
In Ireland, the color orange is associated with the protestant religion.
Black boxes on airplanes are painted orange so they are more visible to the human eye. (Why not call them orange boxes?)
If you dream in orange, you can expect an unexpected change in your life! (Expect the Unexpected, I always say.)
Orange has the optical illusion of making objects look like they are in the foreground, whether they are or not.
Orange Blossoms are a symbol of love.

John Chapman was Johnny Appleseed.
There is a grave in Fort Wayne Indiana near the War Memorial Coliseum that
is suppose to be Johnny Appleseed's grave. When my mother was a Girl Scout

Dear OLofWL, I had been working hard to lose weight. Then I became ill, was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and I lost weight. Now the weird thing is that even thoughI have lost weight due to this illness and am wearing a size I haven't worn since I was a teen, you'd think I'd be happy. Am I happy? Not really. Somehow buying smaller pants because of a health issue doesn't make me as happy as doing it because I worked hard to get there. I am looking at going even lower in size and am somewhat worried about it. Besides the cost of replacing my clothes, it just isn't as satisfying to lose weight this way. Am I weird or what? Love your newletters, Judy P.
Dear Judy P., Sorry to hear of your illness, Judy. And, of course you're NOT weird. You're right on the money. The objective is to lead a healthy lifestyle and be a healthy size - not to be thin at all costs. Be sure to take care of yourself and please let us know how you are doing. Our Lady tends to worry about her friends. ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL, Thank you for the recipes. Could you tell me a website that will show me exercises? ~ Linda
Dear Linda, Here are a couple of websites that you might find of interest:
iVillage, a women's health and well-being site.
About.com has a health & fitness section.
Prevention.com has a 7-day Get Firm Walking article in their current issue.
Hope that's helpful! ~ OLofWL

Forgive me, for I have sinned.
Bad day at a buffet yesterday...crab dip, cake, crackers,
salads of the creamy type, and all in too big amounts.
This is one of the few times I have really binged
since my "come to Jesus" moment...April 1, 2003
when I could NOT STAND how I looked any more and
decided to lose weight...lost 32 and have kept it off to date
give or take only a margin of one or two pounds.
Felt like YING and YANG: good but very bad.
Bummed out this AM as I write this to you.
