Dear OLofWL, I am lusting for luscious lips.
As the summer fades into the humid sunset and the fall and winter roll my way,
my lips get drier and drier and more chapped. Any thoughts how I might avoid the unslightly
(and unkissable)? ~ Lusting

Lusting for Luscious Kissable Lips?

Lips are amazing. They help us to eat, talk, smile, and express emotions. And, most importantly, they were made for kissing. We use them all the time, yet we don't know their real name.

It is 'the vermilion border'. And guess what - the vermilion border (okay, I'll call them lips) is not made of skin, rather something close to mucous membranes.

Lips are vulnerable as they are not protected by thick layers of skin, like the rest of our body.  The blood vessels in our lips are close to the surface, thus giving them their luscious color.

Lips lack sebaceous (oil) glands and therefore have no natural oils.  They burn in the summer and are among the first casualties of the fall and winter.  It’s likely that they will dry – and in extreme conditions – crack.

The resulting damage can increase your chances of developing cold sores or even lip cancer.

How to care for them?

Protect them against the elements (in summer and winter); stock up on lip balm with protective sunscreen.  Due to the damaged ozone layer, the sun is strong year round.  And your lips are more likely to become dehydrated in winter.  If you live in snowy areas, consider how the light is reflecting off the sun.  It’s stronger than the summer sun!

Drink plenty-O-water.  Helps hydrate your entire system, including your lips.

No licking allowed.  Not your friend’s ice cream cone or your lips!  Licking makes your lips drier.  Every time you lick your lips, the saliva evaporates and with it goes your natural moisture (which isn’t plentiful to begin with!).

No chewing or biting your lips.  For goodness sake, it looks awful, and you are removing the little bit of skin that your lips have.

Be sensitive. At the end of the day, gently remove your ruby red lipstick.

Before bed, slather on some more lip balm or vaseline.

Eat lots of fruits and vegetables.  Keep those vitamins pumping through your system.

Kiss away – but be careful! Although not as reliable as fingerprints, there are no two lip prints alike, and they be used to identify you!

Pious Project™ - Luscious PostCards. The word luscious is an adjective. It is believed that its origins are from the Middle English word 'lucius,' which may be an alteration of licius, short for delicious. Its meanings include: 1: having a delicius taste or smell: Sweet, Cloying - 2: sexually attractive: Seductive, Sexy - 3: richly luxurious or appealing to the senses. Luscious is absolutely yummy and deserving of a piece of postcard art made in its honor.

Ingredients: 4" x 6" - 140 lb. watercolor paper
heat transfer paper
iron and ironing board

Instructions: Create your LUSCIOUS design. I simply placed interestng, fat letters on top of purple paper. And the other is the same letters on top of an Indian pattern.
Print it on a piece of heat transfer paper. (Read instructions on package; unbelievably easy.)
Cut to fit your postcard.
Place image on top of postcard (more than likely your instructions told you to flip the image and place it right side down).
Iron. Not too long. It's paper, not fabric, so it 'cooks' a lot faster. Just a few seconds.

Peel back of transfer paper.
Reveal your incredible design!

The fabulous part of it is that the watercolor paper absorbs most of the ink, but because it's not fabric, it adheres in a different manner and creates a texture. Each time its different. Each time its an artistic masterpiece.

Dear OLofWL ~ I have made a donation to the Salvation Army for the victims of Katrina. I gave half my overtime for one pay period. If everyone gave something-like the price of a meal out for a family of four, or all the money we used to spend on junk food in a month, or the price of one New York haircut-you get the idea, then there would be a great deal of money collected. We should be willing to give up something for the people that have lost everything. I cannot imagine losing everything. I have been glued to the TV during this entire mess. We cannot forget the people of the Gulf coast- they will need our help for a long time to come. So many of the survivors didn't have much to start with and now they have nothing. Remember the Survivor!!!!!!!!!!! ~ Anniepie

Dear Anniepie, Beautifully said and generous of you to give half of your overtime. I believe the outpouring for the victims / survivors of Katrina is enormous. Let's keep it going. ~ OLofWL

SPECIAL NOTICE: Many KICK in the TUSH Club members live in Louisiana, Mississippi and
Alabama and are suffering from Hurricane Katrina's devastation.
They desperately need water, food, medical care and shelter. Please help.

Dear OLofWL ~ Have been meaning to tell you how much I look forward to your newsletter each week. You're my new best friend. Love your sense of humor. Why not start a pen-pal weight loss buddy program? I'm a 58 year old, overweight, grandma. I make art. Right now I'm in love with oil pastels. My question is more art related. How do you start doing your own thing & not copying from someone else's art or photos. My photos just don't have enought color for me. Just wanted to say Hi & thanks. ~ Donna P.

Dear Donna, You're my new best friend!! Thanks for the email and the suggestion. Would anyone like to be Donna's penpal? Please let me know and I'll hook you up. Otherwise, there is a website called www.WeightLossBuddy.com and they specifically do that - match up people. And guess what?! I host a chat room on their site every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. As far as the art question goes, I think we learn by looking at the masters and doing what they did. Eventually, our own voice shines through. You just keep doing. That's the important thing. ~ OLofWL

Forgive me, for I have sinned.
