According to the National Academy of Sciences, most women's daily intake of fluids should be 11 eight-ounce cups. It's not as bad as it sounds, because we are talkin' fluids here, not just water. And tea, juice and even - hold onto your water bottle - booze counts.

Here's some interesting information about water. After reading, I'm sure that you'll place water on the top of your daily fluid list.

Water, a Holy life force, is the most plentiful liquid on earth. Water covers approximately 70% of the earth's surface and is an essential component in most living things. Our bodies are more than 75% water, our blood more than 80%, our muscles more than 75% and our brains more than 76%.

Water regulates the temperature of the human body. It carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, cushions joints, and protects organs and tissues.

Water can help to alleviate depression, cleanse impurities from the body, and make our largest organ - our skin - glow with health.

Water also helps to make us look younger. Skin that is saggy (due to the aging process or weight loss) plumps-up beautifully when the skin cells are hydrated.

Water improves muscle tone. Hydrated muscles contract more easily, which makes for a more effective workout.

Water is a natural appetite suppressant and helps us to digest our food. It even promotes weight loss and helps the body to metabolize fat into energy. A recent study found that drinking 17 ounces of water increases your metabolism by 30% within 10 minutes and within 30 minutes your metabolism peaks.

Water is the most important nutrient.
Cheers!

Righteous Recipe - Cucumber Tea Sandwiches

Ingredients:
1-2 Cucumbers
Salt and Pepper to taste
White Wine Vinegar
Pumpernickel bread sliced as thin as humanly possible
Butter (at room temperature)

Instructions:
Peel cucumber as thin as can be.
Sprinkle with a bit of white wine vinegar and a dash of salt.
Let drain in a sieve for about 1/2 hour. Pat dry with papertowels.
Lightly butter (and I mean light!) the bread. Place a few slices of cucumbers and salt and pepper to taste. Top it with another piece of pumpernickel. Press firmly with hand, cut off crust, and cut into neat shapes (squares, triangles).

Chewing the Fat - How you doin'? Write Our Lady.

Dear OLofWL, I was exercising at Curves last year for about five months and it made a huge difference. I lost about 12 pounds. Then my mom died and I quit doing all the things that were healthy for me. It surprised me as she died a very ugly, lung cancer death and I was sure it would make me stay committed. I don't drink or do drugs, however I am absolutely addicted to sugar. Right now it has gotten so bad I need a candy bar before noon. ~ Miriam, Pennsylvania

Dear Miriam, I am sorry about your mom's death. Sounds very sad and I can certainly understand how that would throw you for a loop and off-track as well. A wise-woman posed this question to me 3 years ago when my father died, and I was on the verge and now I'll gently toss it in your direction. She said, "We know that no matter what happens in life, we've still got to get up and brush our teeth and shower. Why is that the rest goes to hell in a hand-basket?" I believe she meant it to be a rhetorical question, but it got me to thinking. I realized that staying on course was about taking care of myself - basic maintenance like brushing my teeth. Now when stuff happens, which sorry to say, major stuff continues for all of us, I think that walking every day and eating healthfully are basics like washing. Even when there are those around me who say 'oh, who could diet at a time like this.' It's not dieting. It's basic care. And, by the way, it gives a sense of control. And in crisis times, I dare say feeling like we have some control is a good thing. ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL, I am having a rough eating week.  I've been having a rough eating month since Thanksgiving.  (That'll be 2 months soon.)  Tomorrow my new mantra will be 'practice the PAUSE'.  I need a KICK! Thank you OLof WL!!! ~ xox Glorianne

Dear Glorianne, Practice the Pause is great.I received a number of emails this week from readers who are working on their mantras. One of my private clients decided that she'd like to have a song. Her's is "I'm Comin' Out." A song, a pause, anything that can bring some consciousness and clarity to an otherwise sugar-filled moment is fantastic! Thanks for sharing yours. ~ OLofWL

Forgive me, for I have sinned.

I had *two* (count 'em) *large* Bergdorf Blondes (Orange juice, milk, half-and-half, sugar, vanilla and Absolut Citron. Lots of Absolut Citron) which lowered my resistance to spaghetti and meatballs. And dessert.
Glory be. Stepped on the scale this morning with no ill effects. Thank you for your grace and forgiveness :) . Will do better from now on!

All is forgiven * Move On!

Interested in joining the next Six Week Workshop?
Gain insight into your inner Weight Loss Artist ™while steadily shedding pounds.
From weight loss mantras to songs to sacrificial twinkies. When it comes to permanent fat removal, thinking outside of the donut box is key!

The Art of Weight Loss is a six-week workshop that is dedicated to approaching weight loss from a creative place. We will share weight-loss thoughts, frustrations, successes, recipes, and find creative ways, both literally and figuratively, to redirect our feeding frenzies. You need not have an artistic bone in your body - just the desire to have some fun.

Here's what one participant had to say!

"As I was walking along 3rd Avenue this morning, passing all those yummie bakeries and thinking that I really need to take a different route for my daily walks ,"my song" popped into my head. I started humming "HELP" by the Beatles.  By the time my walk was completed I was singing it out loud and chuckling to myself.  It worked!!!  I didn't buy even one crumb.
Hooray for me! Loved...loved...loved this week's meeting. ~ Leslie J-M."

IF YOU ARE NOT able to attend group meetings but wish to be a part of it, please read on.
There will be a weekly goodie bag filled with some very cool handouts that can be snail-mailed to you.
