Walking is the very best exercise. Habituate
yourself to walk very far.

Let's get physical!
According to the American Heart Association,
up to 12 percent of all deaths in the United States can be
attributed to lack of physical activity. I understand that
not everyone is meant to be a 'Gym Bunny' (myself included),
but some form of movement is vital to your well-being.
Whether you choose yoga, walking, weightlifting,
running, tai chi, pilates, or biking - choose something that
you feel passionate about. If one activity isn't doing it
for you, try something else. The choices are boundless.
Remember, exercise:
* Reduces the risk of premature death
* Reduces the risk of heart disease, diabetes, colon cancer,
breast cancer
* Lowers blood pressure
* Lowers cholesterol
* Accelerates and maintains weight loss
* Tones the body
* Builds healthy joints, bones, and muscles
* Releases endorphins; improves mood and lowers stress
* Improves sleep
* Increases energy ... and more.
Any amount of movement you do is better than
none at all, and exercise is cumulative. If you can't find
a 30 or 45 minute block of time to walk, workout or stretch,
break it up into three 10 or 15 minute segments. At the end
of the day, you'll feel better for it.

Dear OLofWL, Hi. My mom is interested
in your website, because she needs to lose a pound or two.
My problem is a little different. I am fourteen years old,
and I would like to GAIN at least five pounds. I need a little
help getting started, so any advice would be appreciated.
~ Too Thin In Plainview
Dear Too Thin, If you are determined
to gain weight, you need to increase your calorie intake by
snacking on nutritious, energy-dense foods. Nuts (macadamias,
almost and walnuts, in particular), seeds (sunflower, pumpkin)
and natural peanut butter should do it. Add a slice or two
of avocado (a good fat) to your sandwiches. Try dried fruit
instead of fresh fruit. Whether your goal it to gain or lose,
eating healthfully is always important. ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL, I enjoyed last week's
KICK and learned something about the colorful ways of Our
Lady. Nevertheless, I am wondering. What are the white fruits
and vegetables? ~ White Bread, New Jersey
Dear White Bread, Good question.
Thanks for asking! ~ OLofWL
