While investigating the many wonders of
Jell-O, I unearthed a few fascinating facts,
as well as a promising recipe or two.
- Despite the fact that Jell-O does not enhance weight loss,
longevity or cure cancer, more than a million packages of
Jell-O brand gelatin are purchased each day.
- The people of the State of Utah consume more Jell-O than
any other state in the United States, and the people of
Salt Lake City consume more lime-favored gelatin than any
other city in the United States.
- In 1936 Jell-O came out with a cola flavored Jell-O. It
was dropped the following year. However, a few choice Cola
recipes remain:

Cherry Coca-Cola Jell-O

Cherry Coke Jell-O (variation)
|
* Small box Sugar Free Cherry Jell-O
* 1 cup boiling DIET Coca-Cola
* 1 cup cold DIET Coca-Cola
Mix as usual, instructions on
Jell-O box.
Be cautious of the foam. Just give it a minute to
settle.

- When making Jell-O, (please - SUGAR FREE), note that the
following fruits float:
Apples, bananas, orange and grapefruit sections, sliced
peaches and pears, as well as strawberries.
- And fruits that do NOT float include:
Seedless grapes and fruits in heavy syrup such as apricots,
cherries, fruit cocktail, peaches, pears, and pineapple.
Further proof that heavy syrup may sink you!

Dear OLofWL, I've been on the
Lo' Carb Road to Crabbiness for three months now. I really
miss sweets, and I'm getting meaner by the minute. I've lost
16 pounds though, so I don't want to give it up. Any suggestions?
~ Carbless Crab, St. Louis, MO
Dear Carbless Crab, It seems that
scientists found carbohydrates help boost the production of
serotonin which controls emotions. The brain makes serotonin
only after a person consumes sweet or starchy carbohydrates
in combination with very little or no protein. Apparently,
a shortage of carbs can lead to mood swings and depression.
If you're not getting enough carbs, it could indeed make you
cranky and crabby. Please be sure to include some real carbs
in your diet. In the meantime, hey, for sweet's sake, try
one of the above recipes. ~ OLofWL
