Wacky Web Site I Love: The Kick-In-The-Tush Club

As you know, or may have guessed, there are 10 jillion Web sites out there giving advice and information about fitness, weight loss, exercise, carb counting, and so forth. I can't keep up with them. I don't even want to try.

But I do want to tell you about one site that's lots of fun, easy to digest, and filled with good information, clever art, and smart writing. It's OurLadyofWeightLoss.com, founded by Janice Taylor, whose book-in-progress won me over with the title, " Our Lady of Weight Loss: How the Patron Saint of Permanent Fat Removal Led Me to a 50-Pound Weight Loss and Forever Changed My Life."

Now Janice wants to help you change your life, by making you a member of her Kick in the Tush Club, a free e-mail newsletter "for light-hearted, low-cal loving, nutrition friendly folks who crave mammoth portions of food facts, recipes, art and inspiration."

One recent newsletter explains why eating breakfast is so important when you're trying to lose weight: It fires up your engines first thing in the morning and prevents uncontrollable eating later, when you're over hungry. Another tip will link you to About.com's list of 10 recommended pedometers.

So check out OurLadyofWeightLoss.com. Slim down while you laugh it up. Be inspired by Janice Taylor's success story. If she can do it, anyone can. So what if she now wants to turn her success into a business? It's a good thing. Losing weight and keeping it off isn't easy, but it is possible. Instead of drugs, you need a sense of humor. Instead of gimmicks, you need to find new sources of joy. Janice turned to art. Turn to her and see if it helps. We all need a good kick in the tush sometimes.

"Janice Taylor, a 51-year-old who took a severance package from her job as business manager at a public-relations firm to pursue a career as an artist, echoes this theme, "It's really about being empowered to do the things you weren't able to when you had children growing up. Retirement means absolute freedom." Her dream? To be a starving artist. "I used my art to lose weight. Instead of eating, I would make art about food. I exchanged 50 pounds for 50 pieces of art, and put up a website, www.OurLadyofWeightLoss.com." Now a year later, she has just delivered a book proposal to her agent. "I spent my fiftieth year laying the groundwork for my success." Now, I ask you, does this sound like retirement?"
